The activities in this unit will give the learner skills and knowledge to critique and create magazine advertisements and TV commercials. Students will learn to recognize the techniques used in advertising to manipulate the viewer's emotions. They will analyze the best available advertisements for emotional appeal, creative excellence, and the use of visual techniqes to create strong design. Critical thinking and problem solving will be done individually and collectively as they take on the role of advertising designer and filmmaker. Their communication, writing, and reasoning skills will play an important role as they work out ways to put their ideas into a visual format. Strategies for cooperation and the effective use of their time will be necessary as it would be in the real world. They will analyze their available resources and use them to design as creative a product as possible.
